Unkar Rapid — A distinctive major rapid against a 400 foot cliff on the south shore (actually east due to the bend). At low water it is possible to walk below the cliff, but that never happens now. The beach upriver from the cliff is easily accessible from the Escalante Route. The route downriver follows the top of the cliff. The overlook of the rapid is spectacular and traces of the extensive ruins on the Unkar Delta across the river can be viewed.

Routes — Escalante Route connects between Tanner Canyon and Escalante Canyon. Cardenas Route connects direct with Tanner Trail.

1985 May - Second night camp with Hal and Dad. Favorable fishing, but got away.
